Media Services has several options available to faculty and groups desiring remote conferencing services that do not require proprietary video conferencing equipment. To inquire about these services, please contact Media Services at medialaw@seattleu.edu.

Law School Classrooms

Sullivan Hall classrooms C5 and 329 have been set up to provide two-way audio for web conferences.  All other rooms must depend on USB-based external microphones. Because these microphones have a limited range, we recommend they only be used in smaller settings.

Skype

Skype is a free online conferencing service, with paid-premium offerings.  It requires all users to install software on their devices and create Skype accounts for themselves.  Not all features or international locations are available with the free Skype accounts.

Limitations:
Because Skype is a free Internet-based service, bandwidth allocations are subject to high volumes of users.  It is best to only use Skype for low-risk conferences and interviews which involve as few video connections as possible. International users have encountered problems when trying to connect with Skype users in the US, and some connections may require a per-minute Skype credit fee.

Webcamera Kits (Skype Kits) for Conference Rooms

Media Services has Skype Kits that can be reserved and set up for small group Skype sessions. This involves a high-end noise cancellation microphone that is ideal for small groups, and a high-end web camera with a wider field of vision. This setup is particularly effective when used in small seminar rooms. These are USB webcamera/microphones and can really be used with only conferencing services and are therefore not limited to Skype use.

To reserve the Skype Kit, please fill out our setupĀ form or checkout form.

Adobe Connect Pro

Adobe Connect Pro offers a suite of online conferencing solutions. A Connect meeting room is an online web space where presenters can share visual aids along with audio and video with remote participants.

The law school currently owns a small set of Connect meeting rooms which are primarily reserved for the Externship program. Additional meeting rooms may require extra annual licensing fees. However, if you have a unique need, please talk to us as we may be able to use an existing meeting room to support a one-off event and/or can discuss the future acquisition of additional Connect meeting rooms for your needs.
