Vision

To achieve a legal system where both historical and present-day racism, oppression, and marginalization no longer control outcomes or otherwise contribute to inequality.

Mission

We will educate future lawyers to be agents for social change and racial equality in all areas of the law and the legal profession, we will push the boundaries of the law through advocacy to achieve greater racial equity and equal justice, and we will produce research to drive effective reform by revealing systems of oppression and exclusion.

Method: Education, Advocacy, Research

The Center for Civil Rights and Critical Justice executes its vision and mission by focusing in three areas related to advancing racial equity and equal justice:

    • Education: instilling in law students the substantive knowledge and advocacy skills necessary to enter the profession as social justice practitioners.
    • Advocacy: leading the way in bringing about a legal system that recognizes, remedies, and redresses race- and class-based subordination
    • Research: engaging in critical and innovative scholarship and policy research related to the social, psychological, and legal dynamics that reproduce and reinforce racial and socio-economic inequality.
