What led you to pursue a law degree and why did you choose Seattle U?

I chose Seattle U because I found that it is one of the most diverse law schools in the region and the abundance of programs SU offers to support diverse students was something really appealing to me. Also, Seattle U Law’s mission to develop leaders who make a difference for their communities aligned with my career goals and the school’s wide array of courses means I can tailor my education the way I want. There’s something for everybody!

What have you found especially valuable during your legal education?

I have found the experiential learning programs at Seattle U to be especially valuable. There are a variety of clinics that provide law students with the opportunity to help real clients, with the support of wonderful faculty, of course! During my time at the clinic, I had the chance to conduct interviews, file legal documents, and attend a hearing — all while establishing rapport with my client. It was an extremely rewarding experience, and I will always look back at my time in law school and remember my very first client.

What do you do outside of law school? What do you love about Seattle?

Outside of law school, I enjoy walking around Seattle’s spectacular neighborhoods, trying out new coffee shops, and baking cheesecakes! Born and raised in Seattle, I absolutely love how it is the perfect blend of the city and the outdoors. Plus, there are so many awesome hikes to try!

What advice would you offer a prospective law student?

Law school is the best time to explore. Joining student orgs is a fantastic way to venture into a new subject matter and learn something new with friends outside of the classroom. Schedule, schedule, schedule! In law school, there are a lot of things going on all at once, so stay on top of readings, projects, and events by keeping a calendar. Importantly, make time to do the things you enjoy. Effectively advocating for others starts with self-advocacy through self-care.
