What led you to pursue a law degree?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to work in a field that engaged me intellectually while allowing me to be an advocate for underrepresented communities and put me in a position to participate in influencing society towards a more equitable future. I took time to work after undergrad but continued to pay close attention to socially impacting current events, especially those entrenched in the legal arena. I decided to pursue legal education to facilitate achieving my goals and I believe more fervently than ever this was the right decision for me.
Why did you choose Seattle U?
I chose Seattle U because I was inspired by the school’s dedication to social justice and Indigenous issues in particular. With a robust curriculum in native law I knew Seattle U was the place for me to grow personally and intellectually. I have lived in Seattle since attending University of Washington for undergrad and I love this city. Being presented with the opportunity to attend a law school in a city I love with values aligned with mine felt too serendipitous to pass up.
What have you found most valuable during your law school education?
I have found the faculty at Seattle U to be extremely helpful and accommodating. They encourage students to reach out and are truly happy to help students succeed in every way possible.
What do you do outside of law school? What do you love about Seattle?
Seattle has an incredible food and music scene. If I ever have an opportunity to take a break from studying I know there will be great restaurants to visit or amazing musicians to see!
What activities are you involved in at the law school or in the community?
I am part of many student organizations. Most significantly I have had the honor as serving as the vice president of the Native American Law Student Association and I am looking forward to participating on a journal next year.
What advice would you offer a prospective law student?
No matter what your goals are, the legal field is more vast, diverse, and ripe with opportunity than can ever be communicated. A legal education is truly a golden ticket to access the life you want. The law is dynamic and benefits from creative thinkers from all different backgrounds and perspectives. Your background and perspective will make you an asset to the legal field. Be open to opportunity and getting out of your comfort zone and you will thrive in law school!
