Increase Possibilities of Retention for, and Recruitment of, Indigenous Law Faculty

Objective: Establish and institutionalize support for Indigenous law faculty.

Strategies

• Establish an Indigenous Law endowed chair to ensure faculty oversight and continuation of: the Indigenous Law Certificate Program; Center vision and strategic goals; Indigenous Law students; relationships with Tribal Nations; and the AILJ.
• Engage in meaningful collaborations and partnerships, for establishment, and sustainable support, of an Indigenous Law Certificate, including partnering with TILE and the Civil Rights & Critical Justice Center.
• Develop internal and external partnerships and relationships to ensure Indigenous Law faculty success e.g., hosting or supporting attendance at Indigenous law focused faculty workshops.
• Ensure that SU can meaningfully build relationships with Tribal Nations into the future by developing an internal Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative with SU administration, faculty, and staff. The Initiative will focus on creating a reconciliation working group aimed at researching the history of Jesuit engagement with Tribal Nations and Indigenous Peoples within the Pacific Northwest and addressing historic impacts of Catholicism on Indigenous Peoples (in progress).
