Cornell Law School alum, Vivek Divan, presented his lecture, “Dismantling India’s Anti-Sodomy Law – A People’s Journey in India” on November 12, 2019. The talk focused on the 20-year path that led to the Indian Supreme Court’s decision in Navtej Singh Johar & Ors., in which it found that Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code is unconstitutional. Vivek was centrally involved in legal research, strategy, and leading extensive community mobilization around the case and centered his lecture on his experience being at the heart of the effort.
