Involvement
I wrote an article about the digital age which has been published in the American Indian Law Journal (AILJ). The article specifically focuses on the disparity of broadband access for indigenous communities, a worsening issue due to the pandemic. I challenged myself to study the history of how this digital isolation came to be, as well as which relevant laws have aided or hurt broadband access for indigenous communities, and I offered effective solutions to this issue. I served as content editor for the AILJ editorial board, collaborating with my peers on which articles would have the privilege of being published in one of two Indian law journals in North America. I had the pleasure of serving as the president of the Asian Pacific Islander Law Student Association (APILSA). API students do not necessarily have ample resources or connections coming into law school, especially those coming from immigrant families. I wanted to continue engaging and being a support system with those students through APILSA.
Passion
Innovation is such a valuable tool for me to bring back to my community, especially during a time where technology holds so much influence and power. In my community, I joined the Progressive Vietnamese American Organization (PIVOT) where the mission is to be a reliable and bilingual source of information, specifically on issues that have been misunderstood by the Vietnamese American community. My interest in IP and technology stems from my personal experience that communities of color often do not have equitable access to the Internet and digital tools. By pursuing IP law, I want to support the empowerment of my community in an area that creates rich learning environments and economic growth for underrepresented communities.
