
Andrew Yi is a senior deputy prosecuting attorney for the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Andrew also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore with Thurston County District Court, Olympia Municipal Court, Lakewood Municipal Court, and San Juan County District Court. He also serves as a Commissioner Pro Tempore for the Lewis County Superior Court and San Juan County Superior Court. Andrew has also authored amicus briefs for the Washington Association of Prosecuting Attorneys in the Washington Supreme Court. Prior to working for Pierce County, Andrew served as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Pierce County and a public defender for Thurston County, where he represented thousands of individuals charged with felonies.
Andrew is committed to public service, serving on the board of directors for the Washington State Access to Justice Board, Korean American Bar Association of Washington, and UW - Tacoma's Legal Pathways Program. He also serves on the Washington State Bar Association's Court Rules and Procedures Committee, where he serves as the chair for the subcommittee studying proposed amendments to the Rules of Appellate Procedure. Previously, he served on the board of directors for A Step Ahead in Pierce County, a non-profit serving the needs of children of developmentally disabilities; Climbers of Color, a non-profit dedicated to training future leaders of color in the climbing, skiing, and mountaineering communities; and has served on the advisory boards for both Clover Park Technical College and the University Place School District’s career and technical advisory committee.
Andrew has presented CLEs for the Honorable Robert J. Bryan Inns of Court and presented a CLE on Washington’s General Rule (GR) 37 to the New Jersey judiciary, as New Jersey prepared to implement their new court rule based on GR 37.
Andrew was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington and received his B.A., magna cum laude, from New York University and received his J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School. In law school, he served as a summer extern for the Honorable Christine Quinn-Brintnall at Division Two of the Court of Appeals. In his free time, Andrew enjoys playing the piano, nature photography, alpine climbing, mountaineering, and skiing.
