Biography

LeighAnne Thompson is the Associate Director for Digital Innovation at the Seattle University School of Law Library. Her work focuses on the intersection of law, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, with a particular emphasis on how technological change is reshaping legal practice, legal education, and access to justice. Professor Thompson teaches courses on legal research, artificial intelligence (AI), and legal technology, including AI and the Practice of Law, Ethical Legal Tech Innovation, Law Practice Technology & Ethics, and Advanced Research for Scholarly Writing. She also teaches AI & Access to Justice: A Comparative Approach, an international course exploring how AI may expand access to legal services across global legal systems. She also led a practicum that brought together law and computer science students to design and prototype AI tools addressing legal workflows and expanding access to legal services. Professor Thompson frequently speaks on the ethical and professional implications of using artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in legal practice and legal education. Professor Thompson also served ex officio on the Washington State Bar Association Legal Technology Task Force.

Before joining the faculty at Seattle University School of Law, she practiced law at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and served as in-house counsel for UNITE HERE Health.
