After working as a legal intern in law school for DNA People's Legal Services on the Navajo Reservation, Nancy Talner started her career as an attorney in Washington State by working for the Northwest Intertribal Court System. After that, she handled appellate defense criminal and dependency cases for 5 years and then started a solo practice which included public defense work at the Quinault Nation Tribal Court and the Suquamish Tribal Court. Additionally, she worked on a variety of state and federal appellate matters. In 1995, Nancy started her career as a staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington and was there for 27 years. Her work at ACLU-WA included diverse civil rights and civil liberties issues and numerous amicus briefs.
