Biography

Austin Field is a King County public defender currently representing felony defendants. He has practiced in Seattle Municipal Court, King County District Court, and King County Superior Court, and has defended clients accused of everything from criminal trespass to homicide. In addition to his practice, Austin is an active member of the Washington State Bar Association. He serves on the Judicial Recommendation Committee, was an instructor for the 2026 Criminal Practice Primer, and co-chaired the Trial Advocacy Program from 2024 to 2025.

Austin is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Law, where he was a Tillman Scholar, a Public Interest Law Association Fellow, and a Robert Masur Fellow. While in law school, he represented defendants in Tulalip Tribal Court through the Tribal Court Clinic, provided criminal and civil legal advice to fellow students as a Student Legal Services legal intern, taught a Street Law class to high school students, and volunteered with both the Seattle Clemency Project and the Unemployment Law Project.

Before law school, Austin was an investigator for the Bronx Defenders, an operations manager for a civil litigation firm, and a US Army infantry officer. He is a veteran of the War in Afghanistan.

Beyond his legal work, Austin volunteers with Service to School, which helps veterans apply to higher education, and Operation Snow Leopard, which assists Afghan refugees.
