Biography

Dr. Jeremy Conklin is a physician and attorney. He is board certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Trauma and Critical Care Surgery, and General Surgery. Dr. Conklin received training in Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX; Trauma and Critical Care Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA; Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY; and General Surgery at Geisinger Health Systems in Danville, PA. Dr. Conklin attended medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME on an Armed Forces Health Professionals Scholarship.

While treating patients, Dr. Conklin noticed disparities in the US healthcare system, which negatively affected the health of his patients. To combat the disparities he witnessed, Dr. Conklin enrolled in the evening law program at Seattle University and completed his Juris Doctorate in 2021. Dr. Conklin worked as a physician at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA during the day, and walked across Broadway after work to attend evening classes at Seattle University.

After completing his Juris Doctorate, Dr. Conklin attended the University of Washington School of Law and obtained his LLM in Health Law. Dr. Conklin is a member of the Washington State Bar Association. Dr. Conklin is also a fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine (ACLM). The ACLM is the most prominent professional society in the United States concerned with addressing issues that arise at the interface of law and medicine. The ACLM represents the specialty of Legal Medicine in the American Medical Association House of Delegates.

From April 2020 to June 2020, Dr. Conklin treated patients at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, assisting with New York City's COVID-19 pandemic response. During Dr. Conklin's time in NYC there were over 30,000 COVID-19 cases and NYC implemented crisis standard of care.

Dr. Conklin also holds an MPH in Health Policy, Management, and Behavior from the State University of New York at Albany and an MBA in Healthcare Administration from the State University of New York Polytechnical Institute. Dr. Conklin served as a Post Graduate Fellow with the New York State Senate. There he worked with the New York State Senate Health Committee to implement the Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the Family Health Insurance Program (FHIP), which become the predecessors to the Affordable Care Act.

As a veteran of the Army, Dr. Conklin served as a medic in support of Operation Joint Endeavor, the NATO peace keeping mission in Bosnia. Dr. Conklin also served as a physician supporting the war on terror, the combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Dr. Conklin's interests include public policy for improving health care delivery and efficiency. He has proposed a Washington Patient Compensation Fund, like the Washington Worker's Compensation Fund, for patients injured from medical procedures. Dr. Conklin has also proposed a single electronic medical record (EMR) system for all Washington Hospitals and a unified billing process to reduce duplication of tests and allow for improved exchange of information between Washington health care providers.

In his spare time, Dr. Conklin enjoys martial arts, cooking, and exercise. Dr. Conklin practices Wing Chun kung fu. He enjoys cooking Portuguese, French, and Italian food. Dr. Conklin hits the gym for rowing, biking, and lifting weights.
