Corporate Counsel Awards honor law alumni

March 25, 2014

Alumni of Seattle University School of Law are leaders within the local legal community, and the Puget Sound Business Journal has recognized their talents and contributions in the latest 2014 Corporate Counsel Awards.

Catherine Walker '80, senior vice president and general counsel of REI, was named Outstanding Corporate Counsel for a private company with more than 10,000 employees.

Other alumni have been named as finalists in various categories. Winners will be announced on April 24 at an awards ceremony at Seattle's W hotel.

Lemuel Navarro '10 of the Allen Institute for Brain Science is a finalist in the Rising Star category, which recognizes an attorney that shows great promise and has been working in corporate law for fewer than five years.

Courtney Fuller '07 of Guidant Financial is a finalist for Outstanding Corporate Counsel for a private company with fewer than 10,000 employees.

The Puget Sound Business Journal started these awards four years ago to recognize local attorneys who practice within a corporation or other private sector organization. "The honorees also demonstrate above-and-beyond prowess in handling legal challenges and bringing value to company's bottom line, stellar leadership in the legal department, company and community," according to the Journal.

Nominations for the awards came from throughout the community and were then reviewed by a panel of judges, including Scott Greenburg '80 of K&L Gates and Professor Steven Bender.

The April 25 issue of the Journal will feature profiles of all award winners and finalists.
