Judd Marten was admitted to practice in Washington State in 1979. Prior to joining the adjunct faculty at Seattle University in 2000, Professor Marten was a member of the faculty of the Golden Gate University Graduate Tax Program and he continues to hold this position. He is a shareholder with the Seattle firm of LeSourd & Patten, P.S., where his practice emphasizes employee plans and estate planning. He is a frequent speaker and has spoken to members of the Washington State Bar Association on the following topics: “Income Tax Issues: Income in Respect of a Decedent, Rollovers, Premature Distributions, and Roth IRAs”; “ERISA Pre-Emption, Spousal Consent, QDROs, IRA Transferability, and Bankruptcy”; and “Coordination of Retirement Plans with the Estate Plan.” He has also made presentations to such groups as the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (at their Western Region Conference), the National Business Institute, and the Seattle Tax Group. In addition, Professor Marten has spoken to the Attorney-CPA Tax Clinic on topics such as “Practice Tools: Planning for Retirement Benefits: During Retirement and at Death” and “Community Property and Qualified Retirement Plans, ‘Funding’ the Bypass Trust in Light of Boggs v. Boggs.” He is an active member of the WSBA Gift and Estate Tax Committee, and the Estate Planning Council of Seattle. He has been included in The Best Lawyers in America since 1991, in the Tax and Employee Benefits sections and as one of the Super Lawyers in Washington Law & Politics.
