Biography

John Drenning  has been practicing at the King County Department of Public Defense since 2005; he began practicing as a public defender in 1999 in Island County, Washington. Mr. Drenning has presented CLEs for the Washington State Bar, the Washington Defender Association, the Washington Association of Drug Court Professionals, and several defender agencies on case theory, jury selection, trial tactics, ethics, alternative courts, competency, and client relations. He has practiced in Superior, District, Juvenile, and Misdemeanor courts, trained and supervised new attorneys and Rule 9 interns, and was a calendar court supervisor. Previously he taught college courses at the University of Rochester and in the Federal Corrections system, as well as working as a writer, and a mechanic. He graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1999, where he won the Bracewell & Patterson Oral Advocacy Award, and received his undergraduate degree in Religion & Classics from the University of Rochester in 1992.
