Admitted student checklist

We have created a handy list to help you keep track of everything you need to do between now and the time your classes begin:

Enrollment checklist

• Update your contact information
  • Send us changes to your email or physical addresses ASAP.
  • Check your spam filter to ensure you are receiving all communications.
• Activate your Seattle U student email account
  • Check your current email for a message with activation instructions.
  • Once created, check it frequently!
  • Use this email to pay your seat deposit online.
• Complete your financial aid documents
  • Carefully review the Financial Aid Checklist
  • We will need your Social Security Number to process any aid you receive
  • Contact Student Financial Services with your SSN if we don’t have it
• Pay your seat deposit
  • We require a non-refundable $250 deposit to reserve your seat
  • Consult your admission letter for submission deadline
  • If you are starting in the fall, a second $250 deposit is due June 1
• Get a laptop computer
  • Required for all students. View Computer Requirements.
  • If interested, see Computer Financial Aid options.
• Submit your official transcripts
  • Mandatory for all students
  • Send by Oct. 15
  • Transcript(s) must reflect the conferral of your bachelor’s degree
  • Official transcript(s) must be sent to us directly from your undergraduate registrar
  • Graduate school transcripts are not necessary
• Pick up your Seattle U ID Card
  • Provides access to university facilities and services
  • Details will be sent to your Seattle U student email
• Get your transit or parking pass
  • Seattle U provides subsidized transit passes
  • Parking passes and organized carpools also available
  • Visit seattleu.edu/transportation
• Research textbooks and purchase options
  • You will receive a required textbooks list
  • Review availability and purchase/rental options at the Seattle University Campus Store
• Find out your first-day class assignments
  • Most professors require preparation before classes begin
  • Check the website regularly for first-day class assignments after Aug. 1
  • You will automatically be registered for first-semester classes; look for a confirmation email
• Learn about veterans resources
  • Check here for information about VA benefits, career services and other resources
• Understand character and fitness requirements
  • In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for the jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Only the bar association of each state can advise candidates of their specific requirements.
  • Required disclosures include: arrests, convictions, drug addiction issues, financial issues, academic disciplinary matters, and more.
  • You must immediately report to us any incidents that take place after your application submission
• Obtain health insurance
  • If you have a policy, we recommend keeping it
  • If not, you are eligible for a plan designed for graduate students

• Attend Spring Visit Day – planned for early April, 2022
  • Held for newly admitted students
  • Features a mock law school class, information fair and lunch with the dean and distinguished alumni

Notice to students with disabilities

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Seattle University School of Law provides reasonable accommodations for disabled students, including those with learning disabilities. Financial aid checklist

• Look for your award letter
  • Your financial aid award letter, which outlines the aid you will receive, will be sent to your SeattleU email address approximately three weeks after your admission (but no earlier than mid-March).
  • You must complete the FAFSA from online along with other requested information to receive your award letter.
  • The letter outlines how to accept, reject, or ament your financial aid package.
• Complete Master Promissary Note
  • Complete this online at studentloans.gov (unless you previously signed one)
  • Choose “Complete Loan Agreement for a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan”
  • Stafford Unsubsidized Loans are dispersed in equal amounts each semester but tuition charges may vary, so budget carefully.
• Obtain entrance counseling
  • Complete the necessary documentation online at studentloans.gov for Stafford and Grad PLUS loans.
• Submit forms
  • Submit verification forms or any other documentation as requested by our office.
  • Disclose any outside scholarships or funding assistance you receive.
• Apply for alternative loans if you need additional funding
  • Federal Grad PLUS or private loans can help bridge any funding gap in your financial aid.
  • Equal disbursements are made in fall and spring unless requested otherwise in writing.
  • For Grad PLUS, complete request, promissory note, and entrance counseling online at studentloans.gov.
  • Can be used to purchase a laptop, but you must buy it first and then secure a loan to reimburse yourself, up to $1,450.
• Funding
  • You must complete the registration/validation process each term and attend class
  • Refunds for living expenses are usually available shortly after the term begins.
  • Make sure to complete all paperwork in a timely manner to minimize delays in receiving funds.
  • Always be prepared to pay for books and expenses for the first few weeks of each term.
