About the Externship Program

The Seattle University Law School Externship Program is part of the Ronald A. Peterson Law Clinic, and together we represent the law school's commitment to experiential learning.

The Externship Program provides law students with a rewarding, well-supervised legal work experience for academic credit.

An externship experience can ease the transition into practicing law, assist in professional identity formation, and increase awareness of social justice concepts.

The Externship Program includes:

  • More than 500 field placement sites located throughout the U.S. as well as internationally.
  • Accompanying (mandatory) seminars including international, judicial, criminal, civil, legislative, in-house, and government for each type of site.
  • Guarantees that all law students (including evening, MLS and LLM students ) will have the opportunity to participate in at least one clinic or externship experience.

If you are interested in applying, please contact us at externships@seattleu.edu. Appointments with Externship Faculty can be made on TWEN.
