The 2022 Madrid Summer Study Abroad Program is cancelled due to the pandemic. The program will be offered again in 2023 (conditions permitting).

  • Submit your application early for the best chance to secure a spot and your first choice of course.
  • You are required to log into the Seattle University Horizons Travel Page and complete the requested information.
  • Any participating student who does not complete their Horizons page by the deadline of April 27 will be subject to a $125 late penalty fee.
  • We must submit all applicant information to the State Department for processing by April 30.

How to Apply

Students are accepted based on rolling admissions


To apply, students must:

  • Have completed one year of full- or part-time study from a U.S. law school
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA and be in good standing at their home institution
  • Be academically capable of studying in an intense study abroad environment
  • Be able to adapt to new environments, be civil, be flexible and work well with others.
  • Provide a faculty reference.
  • Note: Law students outside the U.S. are welcome to apply to the program. Contact the Director of the Madrid Program in UCIIIM.

Complete the application form with accompanying materials; submit in one of three ways:

  • Option 1: Email

    • Email the completed application form and accompanying materials to Deirdre Bowen with the subject line "Madrid Summer Application"
    • If you do not receive a confirmation email within 48 hours of your submission, you should assume that your application was not received.
    • Your $500 deposit check is a required part of the application materials. Mail it to the address provided below.
  • Option 2: In Person

    Bring your completed application and accompanying materials to Deirdre Bowen.
