Each LLM degree program requires a minimum of 24 credits. Students pursuing an LLM in American Legal Studies may fulfill the required courses and be eligible to sit for the Washington State Bar exam upon completion of the 24 required credits. Students pursing an LLM in Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship or Indian Law who wish to be eligible to sit for the Washington State Bar exam are required to take a minimum of 6 additional credits, for a total of 30 credits, to meet the Washington State Bar requirements.
Students who wish to take the bar exam in the United States are advised to carefully review the eligibility requirements of the particular jurisdiction in which the student wishes to practice. Students are responsible for determining the requirements of any state bar to which they intend to apply for admission and for arranging their law school curriculum so as to fulfill the bar’s educational requirements. Students are strongly advised to meet with the Director of Graduate Programs to create a curriculum designed to meet the requirements of the jurisdiction in which the student wishes to practice.

Upon approval of the Director of Graduate Programs, students who graduated from Seattle University School of Law may apply for and receive credit for up to 6 semester credits of relevant coursework toward the LLM degree.
No, the American Bar Association does not permit coursework taken as an LLM student to be applied toward the JD degree. International students in the LLM program interested in earning a JD degree must apply through the regular admissions process for Seattle University School of Law.
A limited number of merit scholarships are available to incoming LLM students. Scholarships are awarded at the time of admission.
