FERPA

Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), students have the right to restrict student information that is considered public or “Directory Information.” The law school has designated this to include: student name, address and phone, SU email address, previous institution(s) attended, major, dates of attendance, grade level (cohort), enrollment status (full/part-time) degrees/awards/honors received. Please note: The Office of the Registrar never gives out address information to anyone off-campus, even if there is no restriction in place.

Currently enrolled students may withhold disclosure of any category of information under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. To withhold disclosure, written notification must be given to the Office of the Registrar. Forms requesting the withholding of "Directory Information" are downloadable online or available at the Office of the Registrar.

There are some drawbacks when information is restricted, i.e., we will not release restricted directory information to potential employers, family, friends, educational organizations, and any other organization not involved in a student loan financial relationship with this University. Your academic record is not “Directory Information” and we never release this information to anyone outside the University without your written consent.
