Seattle University School of Law : Student Life

A great Kinection
A reception to mark the end of the first Summer in D.C. Program wasn’t all work. The reception hosted at Microsoft allowed alumni, students and employers to have the chance to play video games on the Xbox Kinect. Dean Mark Niles and Shawn Lipton, assistant dean for the Center for the Professional Development, enjoyed a friendly game. Attendees also got to hear about the great work being done by students at agencies and firms in the D.C. area. More opportunities await students next year.

Celebrate commitment to access
All alumni and the legal community are invited to a CLE and reception as part of the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Academic Resource Center, which is literally changing the face of the legal profession. ARC alumni are invited to a dinner honoring them. Register now.

Fellow will work to bridge gaps
May graduate Kevin De Liban was selected as an AmeriCorps Legal Fellow with Legal Aid of Arkansas to build medical-legal partnerships between the organization and various community health centers throughout eastern Arkansas.

25 years of summary judgment
A colloquium and lecture by the Honorable Lee H. Rosenthal, U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, will reflect on the 25th anniversary of the trilogy of summary judgment cases and how they changed litigation.

Job Strategies Workshop offers tips
The Office of Alumni Relations and the Recent Alumni Committee will host a workshop and networking reception for Seattle University law graduates Aug. 26. Topics include financial aid and debt management, marketing yourself and your practice, and pro bono opportunities.

August 2011

From Dean Mark Niles

It's always an exciting time of year as we prepare to introduce a new class to the law school and welcome all our students back for a new semester. Some of our students have spent their summers on international externships, others have been working in a variety of public interest internships, and others have been working at firms. We are also gearing up for a very busy fall, and I hope to see many of you at events here, including the celebration of the 25th anniversary of our life-changing Academic Resource Center and the law school’s uninterrupted commitment to access and diversity.
