Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality Launch

Seattle University School of Law formally launched The Fred T. Korematsu Center on Law and Equality with an inspiring program that included a moving tribute to the man for whom the center is named. The April 18 program, “Looking Back, Reaching Forward,” demonstrated the important work the center will do to combat discrimination through education, advocacy and research.

Margaret Chon, the Donald and Lynda Horowitz Professor for the Pursuit of Justice, who gave a moving keynote address, talking with Vice Dean Annette Clark and Associate Dean Rick Bird. Dean Kellye Testy and Karen Korematsu unveil a portrait of Fred Korematsu and Rosa Parks that was given by the Korematsu family to the law school. Professor Kimberly West-Faulcon of Loyola Law School,Los Angeles speaks, as panelists Jenny Pizer, senior counsel for Lambda Legal, Los Angeles, and Professor Greg Robinson of Université du Québec Á Montréal listen.
Joe Knight, a visiting Faculty Fellow with the center, listens to a panel discussion. Professor Joaquin Avila spoke on a panel focused on looking toward the future. He said the founding of the center is a "pivotal moment" in history. Fred T. Korematsu
