In May 2014, Judge Trickey was appointed to the Washington Court of Appeals, Division One, after serving as a judge in King County Superior Court since 1996. While on the Superior Court bench, he served on the court’s various calendars, including adult drug court, family treatment court, and juvenile court. He was the court’s Presiding Judge in 2006-2007. He was the President-Judge of the statewide Superior Court Judges’ Association in 2005-2006. He is the current President of the Washington Chapter of the American Judicature Society. He is a fellow of the Washington Chapter of the Advanced Science and Technology Adjudication Resource Center (ASTAR).
Judge Trickey practiced law for sixteen years before becoming a superior court judge. He started his legal career as a public defender, and then was in private practice in a small firm in Seattle. His practice emphasized criminal defense at all levels of trial court. He had an extensive appellate practice as well.
Judge Trickey was active in the King County Bar Association (KCBA) while in practice, including being the Chair of the KCBA’s Criminal Law Section and the first co-chair of the KCBA’s Sentencing Reform Task Force.
