Recent Alumni Committee

The Recent Alumni Committee was created to provide alumni, who have completed their academic program within the past 15 years, the opportunity to build upon the networks they created while in law school. The program serves to maintain a sense of connection with alumni colleagues and faculty, while facilitating an exchange of ideas and career networking opportunities.

This year's annual programming kicked off with a Job Strategies Workshop on Friday, August 26, at which more than 80 alumni and third year law students attended to learn more about marketing their law degree and to explore a range of employment possibilities. If you couldn't join us, or if you need to revisit a particular segment, you can find a link to the Workshop program on the school's media webpage

Since its inception in 2009 the Committee has hosted networking socials, High-Five atop the Space Needle and A Tasty Launch at Seattle's City Hall, Job Strategy Workshops for recent alumni and students, and a Leadership Seminar titled Making the Transition from Practice to Academia, all in partnership with the Office of Alumni Relations. The next program is scheduled for November 2011.

The Committee also provided substantial leadership in the successful '300 in 30 Challenge', the goal of which was to bring in 300 gifts in support of the Law School's Annual Fund in the thirty days of June, 2010. The 400+ gifts received more than tripled the number of gifts typically received in the month of June. Daily, records were broken and new standards were set for online giving.

The RAC also invites alumni to engage with the Alumni Online Directory, a benefit and tool to help SU Law alumni stay better connected with each other and the school.

Leadership is provided to the Recent Alumni Committee by Brian Considine '07 as Chair, and through the following subcommittees.

The Recent Alumni Committee wishes to thank alumna Marlys Palumbo '82, who stepped forward in support of our work, offering to name a $10,000 annual fund gift in recognition of the Committee and the 400+ donors who answered our call. Thank you to members of the Law Alumni Board, along with other alumni leaders, who also came forward to sign letters and reach out to fellow graduates. Finally, many members of the faculty and staff reached out to former students and made personal gifts toward the Challenge.

On behalf of the entire committee, thank you to everyone who played a role in our reaching and then surpassing our goal. Your support is what made our success possible, and your continued engagement will help fuel our success in the future.
